Frequently Asked Questions
No Question is Too Small
What is the difference between All Star & Studio dance?
While there are a lot of similarities, All Star dance is set up more like a school dance team. Dancers will be placed on teams & will compete 1-4 dances. Dancers will not be in more than 1 dance of the same style. With the smaller number of dances, the focus is largely put on the teamwork & team building aspects. The technique they learn in class will be directly related to the style of dance(s) they are competing, allowing them to reach their maximum potential for each dance.
Can my dancer do both TKO & Studio dance?
Yes, the two can work together! It is similar to you dancer being on a studio team and a High School team, or on a studio team & also a competitive soccer team. With the time commitment for TKO being limited to 1 or 2 days a week, there is room for additional training and other commitments. TKO also offers technique only options to supplement your child's dance education!
What is the financial commitment?
With enrollment fees, monthly or trimester tuition payments, choreography fees, team spirit wear, costumes, competition entry fees, and travel expenses for competitions, the yearly cost is expected to be between $5,000-$6,000. We will have a fundraising committee that is in charge of putting together multiple opportunities to raise money to offset these costs.
All Star vs. Prep teams
Each age division, with the exception of Senior, will have both an All Star & an All Star Prep team. The difference is in technical ability & will be determined by audition. ALL teams will compete at both 2018 competitions.
Competitions?
NDA All Star Nationals- February 10-12, Grapevine, TX
Additional competitions TBD
What will costumes look like?
TKO costumes will be custom made or custom designed & will look very much like competitive dance team costumes. Color/style of jazz shoes will be determined based on the look of each costume. Hip Hop dances will have custom picked shoes.
What is the class dress code?
Dancers should wear tight fitting dancewear to each class/rehearsal. Black leotard/pink tights will not be required but ballet shoes will. Shoes needed each week will include ballet shoes, jazz shoes & tennis shoes, if in a hip hop dance.
